The import of grain and grain merchandise to Norway has been doubled since 2000. In the meantime,  agricultural land used for grain cultivation hasbeen decreased by 15 %.

– When a rustic is decreasing the scale of the areas used for forming  and its personal farmlands the place we’re to supply vegetation and grains, it’s harmful for the nation. It’s harmful that we make ourselves depending on imports,  supervisor Ann Merete Furuberg within the Farmers union says to the native newspaper Dagsavisen.

The figures are based mostly on a report made by The Future in Our Fingers (FIOH), which stipulates that imports of overseas grain are anticipated to extend to double in coming years. Elevated imports of animal feed for animals and fish are highlighted as one of many causes.

– In the long run, we have to velocity up the analysis work that has been initiated to learn how we will use wooden or growths within the ocean to supply proteins we will feed the animals with. Within the brief time period, there might be measures which may be used within the upcoming agricultural settlement  that may allow us to extend using the Norwegian soil. The grain worth must be elevated,  Furuberg says.
